Letters to Lola Project
The love for Lola hit me like a freight train. Slowly and then all of a sudden, our little summer solstice baby entered the world with grace. I always knew I would love her but nothing could have prepared me for the feelings I felt the moment she was born. As I sat day in and day out feeding and cuddling her I couldn’t help but want to do something special for her to appreciate as she grew up. I wanted to create something tangible that captured the journey we were embarking on as a new little family.
That’s when I started writing letters to Lola.
I started writing on whatever little notes I could find around the house. Starting with a letter a month, sometimes more, I wanted to make sure to document the memories, milestones, and lessons we were quickly learning almost every single day. It also gave me the opportunity to unplug and reflect on our joyful journey and the real struggle and frustration that came with becoming a new parent and starting a family.
What it evolved into I never could have imagined. I took it beyond Mitch and myself and started involving family and friends in the process. A recipe, a memory, a lesson, or art, everyone would write his or her own little letter to Lola and mail it back to me. I have always believed that it takes a community to raise a child and I now know that to be true. Without the love and support of so many, I don’t know where I would be and this was the perfect way to celebrate just that.
Dear Lola, is the digital home for some of the letters and lessons to Lola.
I have long dreamt of creating a community that cherishes life’s simple lessons. A community with an appreciation for unplugging and truly connecting with people again. A community that fosters gathering to celebrate milestones and communing around a delicious meal and conversation. All in all, Dear Lola is about love and living a more natural, intentional and fulfilled life.
