When I found out I was pregnant with Lola I began a quest to eliminate dangerous chemicals from my beauty routine. It’s something I had wanted to do for a long time but knowing that her health could be at stake too, really pushed me to get educated on what to avoid. Because of that, coconut oil became my absolute go to for moisturizer while I was pregnant. It’s all natural and full of good stuff for your skin. Plus it can be used in so many different ways. I pretty much just carried a jar around with me all the time. Of course, Mitch hates the scent of coconut but I grew fond of smelling like I just rolled off the beach. As fall and winter rolled around I started to battle stubborn dry skin and needed a simple and natural way to help exfoliate. That’s when I got the idea to make this rosemary pink salt body scrub.
Rosemary Pink Salt Body Scrub
- 1 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup pink Himalayan salt
- 1/4 cup sea salt
- 1 sprig of fresh rosemary
- lemon or rosemary essential oils (optional to increase scent)
For this homemade recipe, coconut oil creates the base for this luscious natural salt scrub. Other variations I’ve seen use olive or grapeseed oil. I encourage you to use whichever you prefer, as all have their own unique moisturizing qualities and benefits.
What really sets this body scrub above is the use of pink salt. One part pretty, one part packed with health benefits, pink salt has rapidly grown in popularity in recent years because of its nutritional benefits. Did you know that pink salt is a mineral dense form of sea salt that is mined from the Himalayan Mountains? That’s how it get’s its pretty pink color. The various minerals in the salt make it great to use externally on the body to help with relaxation, detoxification, and hydration. Combined with sea salt, this body scrub is excellent at exfoliating all of that dry skin that likes to just hang around!
When it came to a scent for this scrub rosemary quickly came to mind. Rosemary is one of my absolute favorite herbs. Its piney smell, with an ever-so-slight hint of lemon is just so refreshing. In the spirit of keeping things natural, this is the perfect aroma for this salt scrub. Rosemary is not only good for the body but also the mind and has been linked to increased memory. Simply tear the leaves from the stem and add to the coconut oil and salt to create a subtle scent for this body scrub. If you prefer a stronger scent you can add essential oils or lemon juice to the mixture to kick it up a notch.
As easy as that, you’ve got a spa quality scrub at your finger tips. Use it about twice a week in the shower or bath for best results. The best part about this scrub is it’s subtle scent that works well for men or women.
